For most people, the diagnosis of a cold is obvious from its symptoms,

a cold. They should, however, see their doctor if they have any of the following
symptoms, which may indicate an allergy or a more serious illness:

- The symptoms last longer than two weeks.
- The patient has a fever of 102°F (38.9°C) or higher.
- They are coughing up thick mucus.
- They have severely swollen glands.

- They are having chills or night sweats, or are extremely fatigued.
