There is no way to prevent cystic fibrosis other than genetic testing of
potential parents. Genetic screening of family members of a cystic
fibrosis patient may detect the CF gene in between 60 and 90 percent
of carriers, depending on which test is used. There are still a few rare
mutations of the CFTR gene that cannot be identified by present tests.
